Design

I care so much about this book that not only the content but its layout and cover design became a serious occupation for me.

Layout

Defying the ‘advice’ to the first-time authors about simplicity, i.e, using a ready-made template with a monotone flow, I learned layout design on Adobe Creative Cloud from scratch and did my best to make my book as enjoyable as possible not only to read but also to hold and to keep on your shelf.

Cover

Considering the fact that the cover is the bridge between content and the reader, my starting point was that such a rough and tough topic like ‘resilience’ could not feel at home in a book with a glossy cover.

So, my design question was how to reflect the values around resilience: honesty, humility, transparency, sustainability, originality, beauty, respect, long-termism, knowledge, hard work, collaboration, solidarity, care for others..., to the cover. My answer was using textile, a material that can host all these values as well as the most resilient memories.

The beautiful pieces of waste fabric with a unique colour and texture on each copy were provided by KVADRAT, the Danish textile company the resilience story of which is also shared in this book.
